I. Core Curriculum Electives

  • A. Basic Writing Proficiency – A grade of “C” or better in EGL 101 will complete this requirement.
  • B. Humanities – Choose one course from the following subjects: English (any course from 113-242, except 150, 210, and 212), History, Humanities, or Philosophy (not 105).
  • C. Social Sciences – Choose one course from the following subjects: Anthropology, Economics, Geography, Political Science, Psychology (not 230, 231, or 240), Social Sciences (not 240), or Sociology (not 240). 
  • D. Humanities or Social Sciences – Choose an additional course from section B or section C, or a foreign language course.
  • E. Science - Choose ten hours from the following subjects:  Biology, Chemistry,  Earth Science, or Physics.  Two courses must be in the same subject and at least one course must be in a different subject.
  • F. Linguistics Elective – Choose EGL 260.
  • G. Art and Architecture History Elective – Choose one of the following ART 109, 110, 111, 112, 113, 114, 122.
  • H. Science, Technology and Society Elective - Choose one course from the following: Choose one course from the following: PHL 170; PSY 202, 241.
  • I. PTC Electives - Choose two courses from the following CHI 101, 102; EGL 220; FRE 101, 102; GER 101, 102; HBW 101, 102; ITL 101, 102; JAN 101, 102; KOR 101, 102; MKT 131 265; POL 101, 102; PSC 202; PSYC 101, 221; RUSS 101, 102; or SPAN 101, 102.
  • J. Free Electives - Choose four courses with an IAI designation.
  • K. Minor Electives - The Communication curriculum requires a 15 semester hour minor. A maximum of three minor courses may be completed at Oakton Community College. Please contact the Office of Undergraduate Academic Affairs for additional information regarding minors.
