ECE Associate Professor Mahesh Krishnamurthy Receives Both the Bauer Family Undergraduate Teaching and Armour Excellence in Teaching Awards

Armour College of Engineering Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering Mahesh Krishnamurthy will be awarded the Bauer Family Undergraduate Award and the Armour Excellence in Teaching Award by Illinois Institute of Technology Provost Frances Bronet during the 2017 Faculty Recognition and Awards Reception on April 27, 2017. Both awards are in recognition of his dedication and commitment to Illinois Tech and his contributions to the quality of teaching students.

Mahesh received his MS in Electrical Engineering from the Missouri University of Science and Technology (formerly University of Missouri at Rolla) in 2004 and his PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2008. He serves as the director of the Electric Drives and Energy Conversion Laboratory and the Grainger Power Electronics and Motor Drives lab at the Illinois Institute of Technology. Before joining IIT, he worked as a Design Engineer at EF technologies in Arlington, Texas. His research primarily focuses on design, analysis and control of power electronics, electric machines and adjustable speed drives for renewable energy and automotive applications with emphasis on hybrid, plug-on hybrid and electric vehicles.

Prof. Krishnamurthy has the vision to develop courses that are of interest to students and he is able to communicate his thoughts and passions effectively. He has served as a faculty advisor year after year for the Formula SAE Electric Race Car teams since 2011, the NASA Robotic Mining Competition team since 2016, and supervised numerous IPRO teams. These initiatives stem from his desire to create an environment for students to engage in interdisciplinary, industry-oriented efforts that serve as a training ground towards a successful career.
