The following process and benchmarks were used to determine whether the grand prize should be awarded for Nayar Prize I:
- The team must demonstrate that its work truly represents a scientific breakthrough. Upon completion of Year 3, the team will submit a final portfolio/dossier that summarizes the work it has accomplished during the project with any supporting documentation (e.g., published work, presentations). This portfolio will be sent to recognized experts in the field of study with instructions to provide an unbiased, written assessment of the work’s impact and overall significance. These letters will serve as information for the jury to consider during deliberations.
- The team must demonstrate that its work has contributed to increasing the visibility and reputation of Illinois Tech. Examples of evidence may include, but are not limited to, that work related to the prize has been published in relevant and high-profile outlets (both scientific and popular), that it has helped attract high-quality students (undergraduate and/or graduate), and that it has been favorably received by potential employees and industry partners. Evidence in support of these achievements will likely include both qualitative assessments and quantitative metrics.
