Nine undergraduates from India’s Birla Institute of Technology Mesra (BITM) spent 8 weeks at Illinois Tech this summer in Armour College’s Engineering R & D Immersion projects. Alumni of BITM, including Madhavan Nayar (5th from left) who is also an Illinois Tech Trustee and alumnus, made the cooperation possible. AIA Chicago HONORS IIT STUDENTS for Project in Chile
The American Institute of Architects Chicago Chapter recognized students in the College of Architecture studio of Associate Professor Frank Flury with an 2018 AIA Small Project Honor Award. The project that earned the award, a small pavilion-like community center in the remote town of Antihuala, Chile, was designed and constructed by the group in the summer of 2016.

IIT and Hamburg's HafenCity University collaborate
Sister cities Chicago and Hamburg (Germany) have a new cooperation: IIT College of Architecture Dean Michelangelo Sabatino (left), Interim Provost Russell Betts, and HafenCity University President Walter Pelka sign a Memorandum of Understanding, June 6 at IIT as President Alan Cramb and Hamburg First Mayor Dr. Peter Tschentscher watch. IIT Adjunct Professor Martin Kläschen in Hamburg with IIT and HCU students working on a project "urban waters" joined via Skype with students from both universities and HCU's Frauke Kasting. In Chicago, Sister Cities Hamburg co-chair Rolf Achilles and members of Mayor Tschentscher's delegation to the Chicago Forum on Global Cities also joined. In Fall 2018, ARCH 497-01: Studio will travel to Hamburg with Professor Kläschen.

About the Office of International Affairs
Illinois Institute of Technology's Office of International Affairs (OIA) was established in 1995 to extend IIT's mission of teaching and research through global activities and alliances.
Vice President Darsh Wasan and his staff help coordinate and advance the university's wide-ranging international activities. OIA develops new international initiatives to facilitate the recruitment of a diverse student body, internationalize the curricula, expand distance learning, encourage study abroad, and foster international exchange and collaboration.
OIA also builds relationships with individuals and institutions, and works with the alumni office to expand IIT's international alumni network to link alumni with each other and build a global IIT community.
