chinese University leaders visit

 A delegation of 16 Chinese university presidents and other leaders , headed by Hebei Institute of Technology President Han Xu  (3rd from left),  visited IIT on November 14,  met with President Alan Cramb (fourth from left)  Vice Provost Chris White spoke  about Teachers Professional  Development and ARC Director Tayyab Arshad spoke about the Academic Resource Center.

During the visit, Guizhou University Vice President Xiang Shuwen, also had the opporutnity to greet a cohort of Guizhou University teachers who spent fall 2018 semester at IIT in a faculty development workshop.



 A.I. VIP rohit Prasad Gives Wasan Lecture

Rohit Prasad , MS EE '99. (right) vice president and head scientist at Amazon Alexa,  delivered  the 2018 Darsh T. Wasan Lecture November 12.  Prasad, who was ranked #9 in Fast Company’s 100
“Most Creative People in Business 2017,” spoke about how  recent science and engineering innovations are advancing Alexa’s ability to be more useful, competent, natural, and personal for our daily convenience. 
During Prasad's visit,  Howard Tullman, left,  executive director of the Kaplan Family Institute for Innovation and Tech Entrepreneurship, gave  him a tour of  IIT's  newest innovation hub.

College of Science Professors and VP MIKE GOSZ strengthen Chinese Cooperation

IIT Vice President Mike Gosz speaks at 60th anniversary of longtime partner North China Electric Power University October 27 in Beijing;

China Director Hua Qu, Vice President Mike Gosz, Biology Professor Jialing Xiang, Applied Math Chiar Chun Liu, Chemistry Chair Carlo Segrea, and Dean of the College of Science Xiaofan Li visted several Chinese unviersities in October to strenthen educational alliances and build new ones.

AIA Chicago HONORS IIT STUDENTS for Project in Chile

The American Institute of Architects Chicago Chapter recognized students in the College of Architecture studio of Associate Professor Frank Flury with an 2018 AIA Small Project Honor Award. The project that earned the award, a small pavilion-like community center in the remote town of Antihuala, Chile, was designed and constructed by the group in the summer of 2016.

Armour College of Engineering Dean Natacha DePaola was a distinguished guest and keynote speaker at the 2nd International Conference on Women in Science and Technology: Creating Sustainable Careers at BVM Engineering College in Gujarat, India, June 28- 30 2018.

IIT and Hamburg's HafenCity University collaborate

Sister cities Chicago and Hamburg (Germany) have a new cooperation: IIT College of Architecture Dean Michelangelo Sabatino (left), Interim Provost Russell Betts, and HafenCity University President Walter Pelka sign a Memorandum of Understanding, June 6 at IIT as President Alan Cramb and Hamburg First Mayor Dr. Peter Tschentscher watch. IIT Adjunct Professor Martin Kläschen in Hamburg with IIT and HCU students working on a project "urban waters" joined via Skype with students from both universities and HCU's Frauke Kasting. In Chicago, Sister Cities Hamburg co-chair Rolf Achilles and members of Mayor Tschentscher's delegation to the Chicago Forum on Global Cities also joined. In Fall 2018, ARCH 497-01: Studio will travel to Hamburg with Professor Kläschen.

JOHN HOLDREN SPEAKS ON GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE

About the Office of International Affairs

Illinois Institute of Technology's Office of International Affairs (OIA) was established in 1995 to extend IIT's mission of teaching and research through global activities and alliances.

Vice President Darsh Wasan and his staff help coordinate and advance the university's wide-ranging international activities. OIA develops new international initiatives to facilitate the recruitment of a diverse student body, internationalize the curricula, expand distance learning, encourage study abroad, and foster international exchange and collaboration.

OIA also builds relationships with individuals and institutions, and works with the alumni office to expand IIT's international alumni network to link alumni with each other and build a global IIT community.
