Community Desk Program

The Office of Residence Life at Illinois Tech operates eight community desks in the residence halls and apartments, which employ approximately 150 student leaders during the academic year and fewer staff during the summer term. The Community Desk Program serves to provide security, customer service, and emergency response while collaborating with residents to create a welcoming community on campus.

The Community Desk Program is guided by the values of community, security, and communication.

Community desks are conveniently located in the main lobby of every residence hall and apartment building on campus. All community desks are staffed 24 hours per day during the academic year.

Community Desk Assistant

Community Desk Assistants (CDA) provide security, customer service, and emergency response, while collaborating to create a welcoming community in the residence halls and apartments. The CDA position reports directly to the operations team. The community desks also serve as a communication center for the residence halls and the Office of Residence Life.

Interested in becoming a CDA?

  • CDA applications are typically opened once per semester on a staff-availability basis, with advertisements of the openings occurring in the IIT Today biweekly newsletter and on Handshake. If you are interested in working as a CDA, please read the position description and requirements here, and Apply Online!
  • Please note that due to the large amount of interest in the CDA position, not all applicants will be offered an interview/position.

Student workers are permitted to work a total of 20 hours per week in on-campus employment during academic periods, and up to 40 hours per week during designated academic break periods.
