This section lists important deadlines for Experiential Learning.

Experiential Learning - Spring 2020 (January 13 – May 16)

APPLICATION ANNOUNCEMENT

Students continuing experiences with the same employer from Fall 2019 through Spring 2020 are able to continue their experiences, without a break, starting December 23, 2019. Students starting an experience with a new employer must wait until January 13, 2020 to begin the experience.

MIES CAMPUS SPRING 2020 INTERNSHIP APPLICATION OPENS ON HANDSHAKE

Monday, November 18, 2019
Students can start their internship/co-op application on Handshake.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE FOR STUDENTS CONTINUING EXPERIENCES THROUGH WINTER BREAK 

Friday, December 6, 2019
International students can submit their CPT forms and offer letters, with position descriptions, to the International Center to obtain a new I-20. New I-20’s take 10 business days to be generated by the International Center.

This deadline applies to any start date that is during the winter break from December 23 through January 13. In order to work during winter break students must continue their experience through the end of the Spring 2020 term.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE (NEW EXPERIENCES) TO GUARANTEE JANUARY 13 START DATE

International students must submit CPT forms and offer letters, with position descriptions, to the International Center by 5pm on this date to guarantee a start date of Monday, January 13.  

EARLIEST DATE TO START WORKING

Monday, January 13, 2020
International students must have their CPT I-20 and social security number application receipt in their possession before they begin working. 

FULL/PART-TIME FOR-CREDIT INTERNSHIPS - FINAL DATE TO COMPLETE APPLICATION AND SUBMIT FORMS TO THE INTERNATIONAL CENTER

This is a hard deadline. International students must submit CPT forms and offer letters, with position descriptions, to the International Center by 5pm on this date.  

ADD/DROP DEADLINE

Saturday, January 25, 2020
Students must be registered for a for-credit internship by this date. After this date students will not receive administrative credit for their internships.  

FULL/PART-TIME FOR-CREDIT INTERNSHIPS - FINAL DATE TO BEGIN WORK

Monday, January 27, 2020
Students registered for full/part-time for-credit internships must begin work by this date.

PART-TIME NON-CREDIT INTERNSHIPS - FINAL DATE TO COMPLETE APPLICATION AND SUBMIT FORMS TO THE INTERNATIONAL CENTER

Friday, March 20, 2020

PART-TIME NON-CREDIT INTERNSHIPS - FINAL DATE TO BEGIN WORK

Monday, April 6, 2020
The minimum length for a part-time internship is 6 weeks.

ALL INTERNSHIPS MUST END DURING THIS PERIOD

Friday, May 1 - Saturday, May 16, 2020
Students must end their internship during this window of time. Those who will continue working into the summer semester should look out for the Summer 2020 deadlines in early April.

PROCESSING BEGINS FOR SPRING 2019 EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING PLACEMENTS

International Center begins processing CPT forms and offer letters that have been approved by the Experiential Learning Office.

FORM SUBMISSION DEADLINE FOR EARLIEST START DATE

Monday, April 29, 2019
CPT form and Offer Letter must be approved by the Experiential Learning Office and submitted to the International Center (if necessary) by 5pm on this date to guarantee the start of Monday, May 20th.

EARLIEST DATE TO START WORKING

Monday, May 20, 2019
International students must have their I-20 and social security number application receipt in their possession before they begin working. All students must have approved forms and be registered for the appropriate internship course to begin working.

FINAL DATE TO SUBMIT FORMS

Friday, June 21, 2019
This is a hard deadline. CPT form and offer letter must be approved by the Experiential Learning Office and submitted to the International Center (if necessary) by 5pm on this date.

FINAL DATE TO BEGIN WORK

Monday, July 8, 2019
The minimum length for an internship is 6 weeks.

INTERNSHIPS MUST END

Saturday, August 17, 2019
Students must stop working at their internship.

Experiential Learning - Spring 2019 (Jan 14 - May 18)

CONTINUING EXPERIENCES ANNOUNCEMENT

If you are currently on an internship and are planning to extend your experience, you will need to submit new placement forms and follow the new process while meeting the deadlines listed below.

PROCESSING BEGINS FOR SPRING 2019 EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING PLACEMENTS

The Handshake portion of the registration process will be open at this time. Course Registration for Spring 2019 will begin on Monday, November 5, 2018; at this time, students who have completed the Handshake portion of the process will be able to register for the correct internship course.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE FOR STUDENTS CONTINUING EXPERIENCE THROUGH WINTER BREAK

CPT and Offer Letter must be approved by Career Services and submitted to the International Center (if necessary) by 5pm on this date to guarantee begin work on Monday, December 24. This applies to any start date that is during the winter break from December 24 through January 13. Students must be continuing their experience through the end of the Spring 2019 term.

Students must be registered for a for-credit internship by this date. After this date, students will be assessed a $200 late fee from the registrars office for internship experiences. Students need to complete late registration form.

Monday, January 28, 2019
Students registered for full/part-time for-credit internships must begin work by this date.

PART-TIME NON-CREDIT INTERNSHIPS - FINAL DATE TO SUBMIT FORMS TO THE INTERNATIONAL CENTER

Friday, March 22, 2019
This is a hard deadline. Form must be approved by Career Services and submitted to the International Center (if necessary) by 5pm on this date. *Part-time internships that are added after the Add/Drop deadlines are subject to a late registration fee and must complete a late registration form.

Students must end their internship during this window of time. Those who will continue working through the Spring semester should look out for Summer 2019 deadlines in early April.
