The IIT EA Is About the Student Entrepreneurship Experience
The path to an IIT student’s success begins before she or he comes to IIT. The EA is active in local high schools, supporting business plan competitions, summer programs, and college readiness initiatives.
Once at IIT, students can take entrepreneurship classes no matter which major they are pursuing. Program options include:
- Master of Technological Entrepreneurship
- Master of Information Technology and Management with specialization in IT Management and Entrepreneurship
- Bachelor of Information Technology and Management with specialization in IT Entrepreneurship and Management
- Entrepreneurship Minor
Students can participate in co-curricular activities such as the IIT chapter of Collegiate Entrepreneurship Organization (CEO), a national student-led club. Students can enter local and national competitions, hackathons, and startup weekends to showcase their talents and find resources to turn their ideas into real products and services.
Successful students can be recognized by their induction into the national entrepreneurship honorary, Sigma Nu Tau (ΣNT). The Knapp Entrepreneurship Center provides business resources, and the IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law Entrepreneurial Law Clinic provides business launch services to students starting and building their businesses.
IIT has relationships in the community with various incubators and accelerators, such as 1871, MHUB, TiE, Coalition:Energy, VentureSHOT, Blue1647, and Panzanzee. Students receive discounts to attend events such as Technori Pitch, BuiltInChicago Launch, Feeding Funding Frenzy, ThinkChicago, and many others held by local entrepreneurial organizations. Along with opportunities in IIT’s University Technology Park companies, students have found internships, jobs, and startup partners through participation in these events and organizations.
