The Opening Ceremony, which will be held on the IIT Ed Glancy Baseball Field, will take place on Saturday, May 16, 2020 from 10–11:30 a.m., and will include all candidates for bachelor's, master's, and Ph.D. degrees. Each graduating student who filled out the Ceremony Response Form by the February 28, 2020 deadline will receive select number of tickets which will be determined in the spring semester. The ticket will gain your guests entrance to the Opening Ceremony and an Academic Unit Ceremony. Gates will open at 8 a.m. for the Opening Ceremony. Guests need to be seated no later than 9 a.m. Each guest 2 years of age and older will need a ticket to be admitted to all ceremonies.
Academic Unit Ceremonies will take place between noon–3 p.m. Graduating students will attend one Academic Unit Ceremony based on his/her college or academic unit affiliation.
Important Event Details
- Gates will open at 8:00 a.m. for the Opening Ceremony. Guests need to be seated no later than 9:00 a.m.
- Parking and shuttle bus information is located on the Commencement website.
- Each guest 2 years of age and older will need a ticket to be admitted to the Opening Ceremony and Academic Unit Ceremonies.
- Balloons will not be allowed inside any of the Academic Unit Ceremonies.
- Smoking is prohibited inside and around the ceremony locations.
OUTDOOR EVENT – BE PREPARED
Please remember that this is an outdoor event and come dressed appropriately for the weather. You are welcome to bring umbrellas, water bottles, sunscreen, etc. Please review information on the Severe Weather Plan.
In the event of severe weather, a decision may be made to cancel the Armour College of Engineering Academic Unit Ceremony. You would be notified of this the day before Commencement. If that occurs you would instead proceed to your individual department-specific receptions posted on the front of this ticket. Please also note that all Armour College graduates will pick up their diplomas at their reception location.

PHOTOGRAPHS AND VIDEOTAPING
Please feel free to bring your cameras to take photos after the academic unit ceremonies. Guests will not be allowed to leave their seats to photograph or videotape the graduates during any ceremony. The aisles need to remain clear at all times, and especially during the processional, ceremony and recessional. No freestanding equipment will be allowed. There will be unlimited opportunities for personal photographs after the academic unit ceremonies.
