Family Weekend

The Illinois Institute of Technology invites all family members and supporters to the annual Illinois Tech Family Weekend. Family Weekend is a campus-wide program that welcomes all the family members and supporters of current Illinois Tech students and celebrates their contribution to the community. This is a great opportunity to see what makes the Illinois Tech community special. We hope that you join us for Family Weekend on October 19-21,2018!

Registration

Please note that registration will be open til the event; however, register by October 5, 2018 to be guaranteed a T-Shirt. Furthermore, we ask that all participants register EACH member participating in Family Weekend, including the student.

Architecture Tour with IIT College of Architecture
1:00 p.m., Crown Hall
Sponsored by: IIT College of Architecture
Join Professor Frank Flury on this one hour tour of campus. Learn about the famous architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and his impact on the Illinois Tech campus. Tour will begin in front of S.R. Crown Hall.

Bronzeville Historical Tour
Sponsored by: Black Student Union
2:00 p.m.
A return to the past experience as we delve into the beginnings of Bronzeville and review the staples of culture and heritage. Tour will begin in the McCormick Tribune Campus Center.

Working On Campus! How Family Members Support Students to Work On-Campus

Study Abroad 101

Family Weekend Welcome Dinner

Welcome all students, family members, and supporters of student to our welcome dinner. We will have performances from our A Cappella group.

Movies at the Tech: Hocus Pocus
7:00 p.m., Perlstein Auditorium
Join Union Board and the Illinois Tech community in the movie showing, Hocus Pocus. Hocus Pocus is about three witch sisters that are resurrected in Salem, Massachusetts on Halloween night, and it is up to two teenagers, a young girl, and an immortal cat to put an end to their reign of terror once and for all.

Campus Tour

Tours will be offered to any students, family members, and supporters of Illinois Tech students. Tours are in conjunction between the office of Undergraduate Admissions and Residence & Greek Life.

Explore Galvin Library

Join us for a tour of Galvin Library--the second home of students on campus. The Paul V. Galvin library is open 147 hours/week, 24 hours per day, five days a week during the academic year, and 24/7 during the final weeks of the semester. We have provided flexible seating and study arrangements which thousands of IIT students take advantage of year. We will end our tour in the Exploration Space, a tiny but mighty maker lab, where you will get the chance to make your own button! The tour will meet in the lobby of the library at 11 AM.

Lunch on the Quad

Warm Drinks and Cool Engineering Demonstrations

Bring your family to the Rettaliata Engineering Center Atrium to warm up with apple cider! Armour College students from Material Advantage will amaze your guests as they use liquid nitrogen to make ice cream and turn gooey candy as hard as a rock. You can also freak out your family by making a slimy non-Newtonian substance, also known as gak, with AIChE students.

The 13th Annual Pumpkin Launch

Using pumpkin-launching machines they design and build, student teams compete for prizes for distance, accuracy, and crowd favorite. What sort of designs will win this year's competition? Catapult, trebuchet, ballista, or something entirely new? You'll have to be there to find out! 

St. Baldricks

Colleges Against Cancer at IIT invites you to attend our 2017 St. Baldrick's event! Once again, we are competing against other colleges across the country in the Battle of the Bald. The Idea Shop Prototyping Lab is an 8,500-square-foot facility equipped with an assortment of 3D printers, CNC mills, electronics prototyping and testing supplies, and all the general tools students need to fabricate their ideas. Get a chance to tour the facility and then join the lab staff and students for an Escape Room in the shop. Hint: You'll need to work in teams to solve a series of clues and puzzles!
