Next steps for First-Year Students

Once you have gone through Student Orientation, Advisement and Registration (SOAR) and Welcome Week, you may be wondering what is next for you. This guide will help introduce you to some new opportunities Campus Life has for you during the semester.

  1. Connect with your Resident Advisor OR COMMUTER AMBASSADOR

Whether you live on campus or commute, there is someone for you to connect with that will be here to support you during your first year at Illinois Tech. If you live on-campus, connect with your Resident Advisor who will be able to help you transition to living on-campus into your home away from home. If you are commuting to campus, you will meet your Commuter Ambassador during Welcome Week. Commuter Ambassadors will let you know about events on campus and get you connected with other commuter students.
  2. Participate in the Freshman 15

At the beginning of each month, Campus Life releases a list of 15 DON'T MISS programs for that month. We select these events for their relevance to you, our first-year students. Make sure to check out all of this semester's Freshman 15!
  3. Cheer on your fellow Scarlet Hawks at any of our athletic events

Head over to Keating, the soccer field or the baseball field to cheer on our Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawk Student Athletes!
  4. Log onto hawklink

HawkLink is your connection to student organizations and campus involvement. Browse student organizations, check out the event calendar, and connect with student leaders!

  5. Get involved!

Whether you're interested in student organizations, service, leadership, or diversity programs- there's something for you at Illinois Tech! Check out the Office of Campus Life's guide to getting involved on campus.
