It Began With a “what if?”

In 1890, a bold sermon imagining a new kind of university fell on ears that listened. And a vision to train young people for excellence in science- and technology-focused careers found the support to make it a reality.

For the past 125 years Illinois Institute of Technology has thrived by asking tough questions and answering “why not?” In doing so we have changed the world—educating bright and hardworking students, preparing graduates to invent life-changing products, and conducting research that matters in our daily lives.
