GENERAL EDUCATION PROGRAM - Please consult the General Education section of the current IIT Bulletin for complete requirements.

  1. Basic Writing Proficiency - Students must show basic writing proficiency by receiving a satisfactory score on the Writing Proficiency Examination or by passing an English Composition course.
  2.   3.   4.   5. Science Electives - A minimum of eleven (11) hours is required. Two courses must be in the same field and at least one course must be in a different field.   6. Mathematics - Choose MATHEMATICS 207 (IIT's Math 151).
  7. Computer Science - Choose COMUTER INFORMATION SYSTEMS 142 or 144 (IIT's CS 105 or CS 115).
  8. Ethics Elective - Choose either PHILOSOPHY 107 or BUSINESS 214.
  9. Science, Technology and Society Elective - Choose one course from the following: BUSINESS 232; PHYSICAL SCIENCE 107; PSYCHOLOGY 206, 211; or SOCIOLOGY 201.
  10. ICOM and PTC Electives - Choose two courses from the following: BUSINESS 231; ENGLISH 152, 153; FINE ARTS 104; FRENCH 101, 102; GERM 101, 102; HUMANITIES 105; ITALIAN 101, 102; JAPANESE 101, 102; LINGUISTICS 101; LITERATURE 155, 299; MATHEMATICS 125; POLISH 101, 102; POL SCI 204; PSYCH 201, 211, RUSS 101, 102; SPAN 101, 102; or SPEECH 160.
  11. Free Electives - Choose three courses from any of the courses listed in the above sections or any course with an "IAI" designation, except ART 196, 197; CHILD DEVELOPMENT 259; MATH 118, 122, 204; MUSIC 102, 103, 105, 106, 111, 112, 133, 134, 201; and THEATER ART 133, 235.
  12. Minor Electives (PTC only) - The Professional and Technical Communication curriculum requires a 15 semester hour minor. Depending on the minor, a student may complete a maximum of three courses at the City Colleges. Please contact IIT's Office of Educational Services for additional information.
