The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has implemented a one-time SEVIS Fee for all F-1 and J-1 visa applicants.

The purpose of the fee is to supplement the administration and maintenance costs of the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS). The SEVIS Fee is in addition to the visa application fee you pay to the U.S. Consulate.
When Do You Pay the SEVIS Fee?
The fee must be received by DHS at least three business days prior to applying for your visa or applying for admission to the U.S. at a port-of-entry for those who are exempt from the visa requirement (primarily Canadians).
How Is the Fee Paid?
The fee must be paid to DHS by mail or via the Internet. It can be paid by you or a third party, inside or outside of the U.S. For detailed payment instructions and to pay the fee online using a credit card, visit www.fmjfee.com.
How Do You Prove that You Paid the SEVIS Fee?
- If you paid the fee by mail, you will receive a receipt notice by mail.
- If you paid the fee via the Internet, you must print out your receipt after submitting the credit card information.
You must bring the receipt to your visa interview to verify payment of the SEVIS Fee.
