Community Desk Program

The Office of Residence and Greek Life at Illinois Tech operates 6 community desks in the residence halls and apartments, which employ approximately 100 student leaders during the academic year and fewer staff during the summer term. The Community Desk Program serves to provide security, customer service, and emergency response, while collaborating with residents to create a welcoming community on campus.

Community Desks are conveniently located in the main lobby of every residence hall and apartment building on campus. All Community Desks are staffed 24 hours per day during the academic year.

Graduate Assistant for Community Desk Leadership (Position Filled)

The Graduate Assistant for Community Desk Leadership (GACDL) is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Community Desk Program and the development of the Community Desk staff under the direction of the Operations Manager for Residence and Greek Life. The GACDL directly supervises the 6 Community Desk Managers and oversees the supervision of the CDA teams.

Community Desk Manager

The Community Desk Manager (CDM) supervises and leads a Community Desk Assistant (CDA) team and provides support for IIT Residence and Greek Life processes. The CDM position reports directly to the Graduate Assistant for Desk Management and the Operations Manager. The CDM serves as a key point of communication among many constituents. CDMs participate in an on-call duty rotation.

Community Desk Assistant

Community Desk Assistants (CDAs) provide security, customer service, and emergency response, while collaborating to create a welcoming community in the residence halls and apartments. The CDA position reports directly to one of six Community Desk Managers (CDMs). The CDMs report to the Graduate Assistant for Desk Management and the Operations Manager for Residence and Greek Life. The community desks also serve as a communication center for the residence halls and Residence and Greek Life.

    • Please note that due to the large amount of interest in the CDA position, not all applicants will be offered an interview/position.

Student workers are permitted to work a total of 20 hours/week in on-campus employment during academic periods and up to 40 hours/week during designated academic break periods.
