Changes and Cancellation

Looking for a Room Change?

The Office of Residence Life will consider a room change request when there is an extenuating circumstance that will negatively impact the well-being and success of a resident due to the environment, they live in. In that case, a resident must meet the criteria herein outlined, provide the necessary documentation, and complete a room change form.

Emergency situations are an exception, and you should find your resident adviser or go to your community desk assistant in emergency circumstances.

If you are experiencing a roommate conflict, please schedule a time to discuss the issue with your Resident Adviser first. Your Residence Hall Director may request a meeting as well as a next step. 

Cancellations

Change happens. We understand. To cancel, a Student must submit a written request for Housing and Food Contract cancellation to the Office of Residence Life. Cancellation requests must be submitted through the Office of Residence Life email housing@iit.edu. Cancellation requests submitted by any other means will not be honored or processed. In the event Residence Life agrees to the early termination of this Contract, Student acknowledges and agrees that Illinois Tech reserves the right to give student 48 hours to vacate the current space.

To submit requests for housing and food contract cancellation, the Office of Residence Life requires a written notification. Please email the Office of Residence Life at housing@iit.edu with your notification of cancellation. 

Please be sure to include your name, student ID number, and reason for your cancellation. Please note that the housing pre-payment and cancellation fees are two separate charges. Please note, your contract contains specific cancellation terms and fees based on both the circumstances and date of your request to cancel. Once the term begins, housing and food proration will apply. The date of last occupancy (including belongings) will be used to determine final billing.

Academic Year 2024-2025 Housing Prepayment
Please note that prior to submitting your contract, we require a $600.00 prepayment. The prepayment is not an extra fee and will go directly toward the cost of your room for the term. Should you cancel prior to May 31, 2024, you will receive a refund of your deposit. If you attempt to cancel after May 31, 2024, your deposit will be non refundable per our contract terms in section R.
