Become a Resident Adviser

Interested in Becoming a Resident Adviser?

The resident adviser (RA) position at Illinois Tech is vital role; they are centers of leadership and service. The highly selective process to find RAs seeks the very best student leaders. RAs are carefully selected and trained to be leaders, role models, and community builders. RAs work alongside Office of Residence Life staff to build strong communities through a variety of positive interactions, including hall meetings, programming, and visiting with floor members. They are also responsible for providing and creating safe residential spaces through resident education and policy enforcement.

Training

As role models and leaders of Illinois Tech and their residence halls, resident advisers (RA) are held to high standards. Before the start of their term, RAs go through extensive training that helps them develop their skills and prepare for the responsibilities ahead. Training focuses on developing a student’s ability to communicate with others, problem solve, connect with and appreciate diverse populations, and plan intentional and impactful events.

Note: RA training takes place before the start of each school year as to not conflict with students’ course schedules. RAs must be able to attend all training sessions scheduled in order to hold their position.
