Interested in Becoming a RA?

The Resident Advisor (RA) position at Illinois Tech is vital role; they are centers of leadership and service. The highly selective process seeks the very best student leaders. RAs are carefully selected and trained to be leaders, role models, and community builders. Resident Advisors work with alongside the Residence and Greek Life staff to build strong communities through a variety of positive interactions, including hall meetings, programming, and visiting with floor members. They are also responsible for providing and creating safe residential spaces through resident education and policy enforcement.

Training

As role models and leaders of Illinois Tech and their Residence Hall’s, Resident Advisors are held to high standards. Before the start of their term, RA’s go through extensive training that helps them develop their skills and prepare for the responsibilities ahead. Training focuses on developing a student’s ability to communicate with others, problem solve, connect and appreciate diverse populations and plan intentional and impactful events.

Resident Advisor training takes place before the start of each school year as to not conflict with student’s class schedules. RA’s must be able to attend all training sessions scheduled in order to hold their position.

Fall 2015

8/5/15 = Senior RA’s move in

8/6/15 = RA’s move in and training begins

8/715 - 8/9/15 = RA Retreat (Off Campus)

8/10/15 – 8/15/15 = Residence Hall Leader Training (RAs, CDMs, RHA, etc.)

8/17/15 – 8/21/15 = Residence Hall Early Arrival & Move-In (RA’s are required to work Move-In day)

8/19/15 – 8/23/15 = Welcome Week (RA’s are required to work different events throughout Welcome Week)

Spring 2016

1/3/16 = RA’s return to campus

1/4/16 - 1/5/16 = RA Spring Training

1/6/16 = Residence Halls Open for Spring (RA’s are required to work Move-In day)

5/16/16 = RA’s move out by 12pm.

In-Service

During the term of employment, RA’s are required to attend training sessions to continue their development as leaders. In-Services, are two hour long trainings held once a month, during the week and are usually held in the evening hours (9:00pm-11:00pm).

In-Service dates for the 2015-2016 school year: 9/15/15, 10/13/15, 11/10/15, 1/19/16, 2/16/16, 3/8/16, 4/5/16

Resident Advisors are expected to attend all scheduled In-Services in order to hold their positions.
