SOAR Leader

DESCRIPTION OF ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITY

  • Assist Campus Life and campus partners in introducing students to campus resources through the implementation of orientation activities
  • Assist with check-in for SOAR registration and academic advising sessions
  • Facilitate group discussions and social interactions between students
  • Participate in all SOAR Leader Training activities, assigned SOAR events, Welcome Week and UPASS distribution
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS

  • Submit all application materials on time
  • Participate in selection interview
  • Have no other obligations during SOAR events

SUPERVISION

All SOAR Leaders report directly to the Coordinator of Campus Life/SOAR.

QUALIFICATION

  • Registered student at IIT in good academic and disciplinary standing
  • Minimum overall grade point average of 2.5.
  • Display strong interpersonal communication and leadership skills as well as the potential to develop these skills
  • Have the ability and desire to work with diverse groups of people. 

Compensation

Hourly at minimum wage

TIME COMMITMENTS

  • SOAR Leader Training
  • SOAR Sessions for undergraduates, graduates, transfer, and international students
  • Welcome Week (Summer SOAR Leaders ONLY)
  • UPASS Distribution

Peer Mentor

DESCRIPTION OF ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITY

  • Assist new students in becoming active and engaged members of the IIT community
  • Facilitate on and off campus outings with your group, working to meet together twice a month
  • Attend monthly Peer Mentor meetings
  • Contact students in your group once per week
  • Meet with Campus Life supervisor once a semester for a check in meeting
  • Participate in Campus Life sponsored First Year Experience outreach (Freshman 15 events, social media, etc.)
  • Be present for specified Welcome Week activities, including the Peer Mentor Meet & Greet, New Student Day of Service and Covering the Bases
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS

  • Submit all application materials on time
  • Participate in selection interview
  • Participate in training sessions

SUPERVISION

  • All Peer Mentors report directly to the Coordinator of Campus Life/SOAR.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Registered student at IIT in good academic and disciplinary standing; you must remain in good academic and disciplinary standing for the duration of your employment.
  • Attended IIT for at least 1 full year (2 semesters).

Compensation

  • $200 stipend, plus a programming budget
