SOAR Leader

DESCRIPTION OF ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITY

  • Assisting the new students in becoming an active, engaged member of the IIT community
  • Providing a variety of information and services to new students at IIT
  • Attend all training and program sessions
  • Encourage all students to interact with each other
  • Assemble SOAR materials
  • Check-in students
  • Work with assigned group of specific students throughout orientation to tailor to individual needs
  • Conduct campus tours
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS

  • Submit all application materials on time
  • Participate in selection interview
  • Have no other obligations during orientation events
  • Participate in training sessions.
  • Participate in all assigned orientation events.

SUPERVISION

All Orientation Leaders report directly to the Coordinator of Campus Life/SOAR.

QUALIFICATION

  • Registered student at IIT in good academic and disciplinary standing
  • Minimum overall grade point average of 2.5.
  • Display strong interpersonal communication and leadership skills as well as the potential to develop these skills
  • Have the ability and desire to work with diverse groups of people. 

REMUNERATION

Hourly at minimum wage

TIME COMMITMENTS

  • SOAR Leader Training
  • SOAR Sessions for undergraduates, graduates, transfer, and international students
  • Welcome Week (Summer SOAR Leaders ONLY)
  • VENTRA Distribution

Peer Mentor

DESCRIPTION OF ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITY

  • Assist new students in becoming an active, engaged member of the IIT community
  • Attend all training sessions
  • Encourage all students to interact with each other
  • Check-in with students in your group once per week
  • Facilitate on and off campus outings with your group, working to meet together once a month
  • Meet with Campus Life once per month to check in (either drop in, scheduled or in a facilitated meet and greet)
  • Participate in Campus Life sponsored First Year Experience outreach
  • Be present for all of Welcome Week activities, including the Peer Mentor Meet & Greet
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS

  • Submit all application materials on time
  • Participate in selection interview
  • Participate in training sessions
  • Remain in contact with your group for the duration of Spring 2015 semester

SUPERVISION

All Peer Mentors report directly to the Coordinator of Campus Life/Women's Services.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Registered student at IIT in good academic and disciplinary standing; you must remain in good academic and disciplinary standing for the duration of your employment.
  • Attended IIT for at least 1 full year (2 semesters).

REMUNERATION

$200 stipend
