Martin Kilpatrick

Martin KilpatrickA nationally known chemist and academician, Martin Kilpatrick chaired IIT’s Department of Chemistry from 1947–1960, leading it to prominence in both undergraduate and graduate instruction and in faculty research. As a scientist, he made his mark in kinetic chemistry and wrote more than 120 papers on a variety of subjects ranging from the base strength of hydrocarbons to chemistry curricula. Illinois Tech’s annual Kilpatrick Lecture and Kilpatrick Fellowship honor Kilpatrick and his wife, Mary, who was a chemistry faculty member from 1947–1964.
