Dr. Rowine H. BrownA humanitarian in medicine and the law, Rowine H. Brown Truitt significantly advanced a humanitarian approach to medical treatment in hospitals and to the rule of law in society. As medical director and chief of staff at a major U.S. hospital (Cook County Hospital, now John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital)—the first woman to hold this position—she pioneered advances in medicine, law, and the interaction of the two, particularly in the area of child abuse.
